What a week of Hockey –
travelling to Meaford mid-week, home game on
Saturday and final round-robin game on Sunday in Coldwater!
The Flames Novice LL team had a full week of exciting hockey. The Flames started things off by travelling to Meaford mid-week to face the undefeated Georgian Shores Lightning! The game was certainly well fought by the Flames, but we just could not break the Lightning’s winning streak! The entire team played very well and it took the Lightning over 15 minutes to finally get their first goal. The final score was not in our favour, but the boys certainly did not just hand over a win to them.
Three days later the Lightning travelled to Penetang and the Flames certainly were determined to give it their all! The Flames once again came out strong and worked hard to keep the Lightning’s key players from scoring. It was great when they Flames responded in the third period and #19 Monague got the first gaol of the game with the help of his line mates #10 Ingram, #66 Grenier and #8 Charlebois – which by the way was a short-handed goal! The Flames did not give up the entire last period and #44 Carson Boyle who was playing for his Papa who had just passed away, scored a beautiful goal that brought tears to a few parents eyes. Well done Carson, your papa would have been proud of you and I know he was watching! I want to thank you Carson for being at the game on Saturday and being there for your team. This is a true example of team dedication, commitment and what we can only hope all our kids get from this great game of hockey, the feeling that you are part of more then just a hockey team; you are part of a hockey family!
Finally on Sunday, the Flames travelled to Coldwater for their final game of the round-robin play-downs. Both the Flames and the Wildcats were looking for a win to help secure a position in the Championship division and both teams played an unbelievable game! Despite a late start to the game, a very sticky puck and some goalie equipment issues, the Flames certainly played one of their best games of the season. Having faced the Wildcats three times before and unable to get a victory, the Flames went to work and kept the game to a 0-0 tie! Every member of the Flames Novice LL team played with passion, determination and most importantly had fun!
Congratulations Flames on eight (8) great games of round robin play-down hockey! We’re off to the consolation round and another three great games of hockey still in store I am sure of it!
