Game 7
Penetang Flames host the Stayner Cyclones
The Flames bounced back on Saturday against the Cyclones and worked hard as a team to win the game 6-3.
The first period started-off a little slow, but the starting line of #15 Elliot dM, #17 Spencer P. and #9 Trent W. well together all game and put the first goal in the net – nice pass by #17 Spencer P and in the net by #9 Trent W. The team continued with it’s strong momentum, and #66 Finn B on a break-away pass by #11 Drew F and other line mate #4 Aidan G. put the Flames up by two goals. The Cyclones responded and put one on the board.
The second period certain saw a tone of great fore-checking, passing, shots on net and great goal tending. The Flames continue to demonstrate that they have come so far as a team, and it certainly showed as #15 Elliot dM put one in the net with the assistance of his line mate, #9 Trent W. The Cyclones come hard into the Flames zone and managed to sneak another one in the net putting the game at 3-2.
The third period continued to be full of action and the boys on defence worked hard to keep the puck out of the Flames zone and in the Cyclones end. Well done by #44 Owen D, #3 Chad , #13 Jackson C, #8 Kyle B, #53 Brennan M. and #93 Landon T. The line of #19 Joshua L, #91 Noah B and #10 Nathan G worked hard to get to the net and tried hard to get the rebounds. The Flames saw #15 Elliot dM. put other one in the net and #17 Spencer P put two in the third period to end the game 6-3 for the Flames. Great work by our goalie #31 Ryan C for making some great saves.
Game 8 – Final Game of the Play Downs
Penetang versus Elmvale #2
The final game of the play downs was certainly an exciting one for all to see! The Flames came into the Elmvale arena with something to prove and the hopes to win the last game of the play downs to put them in contention for second place. Elmvale #2 certainly demonstrated that they had made significant improvements over the season and were also coming to the last game with something to prove.
The game was action packed and the Flames put the first goal on the board scoring at 5:04 in the first period. The line of #15 Elliot dM., #17 Spencer P, and #9 Trent W. starting things off strong with great passing and team work. #15 got the first goal of the game unassisted. Elmvale was quick to respond and tied up the game.
The second and third periods saw the same theme, Flames score and Elmvale responded. The Flames worked hard to sneak another one by, however the goal was not counted and the Flames continued to battle on. Goals scored by #66 Finn B and assisted by #10 Nathan G. continued to keep the team going and the additional goals in the third period by #17 Spencer P and #15 Elliot keep the game within reach. With only a few minutes left on the clock and the game tied at 5 goals each, the team worked hard to create opportunities, however in the end the game remained a tie.
The Flames should be very proud of the great team work demonstrated throughout the entire round robin play downs. We are far from finished and look forward to playing against Midland in the Consolation Final.
