2021-22 Season Update
Good morning PMHA members,The PMHA board has been busy working on our return to play for the 2021-22 season.  We appreciate all the patience you have shown through the summer and are finally ready to update you on the start of the season.  Please read through the entire contents of this email as there are many important details throughout.

Return to Play
PMHA will be returning to the ice starting Thursday, September 9th.  We will begin by hosting initial skates for all age groups.  Everyone will receive 1 session per week for the first 3 weeks of the season.  After that, we will host our Rep and AE tryouts which will run from September 24th to October 3rd and then plan to move into our regular scheduled programming starting on October 4th.

Vaccination Policy
This weekend, the OMHA announced that all participants in hockey activities will be required to be double vaccinated + 14 days by October 31st or they will be ineligible to participate in any programming.  Exceptions will be made for those that are ineligible for the vaccine or who have an exemption.  This includes all players, coaches, trainers, volunteers, on-ice instructors, and officials.  At this time, OMHA does not require spectators to be vaccinated.

The full details of the OMHA vaccination policy is attached to this email.

In addition to the OMHA policy, the Government of Ontario is rolling out a vaccine passport system that will require anyone entering a sport facility such as our arena to provide proof of vaccination to enter the building by September 22nd.  We are working with the Town of Penetanguishene to determine who this will be managed but we fully expect that enforcement of this policy will begin on that date.  More details will be shared once they are available.

The health and safety of our players, coaches, trainers, arena staff, and everyone involved with PMHA is of the utmost importance and we will continue to follow the mandates of our governing bodies (OMHA, OHF, Hockey Canada) and our governments (local, provincial, and federal) to ensure we can run a safe hockey season.  Your support of these policies is greatly appreciated.

COVID-19 Facility Waivers
All PMHA players, coaches, trainers, and on-ice volunteers are required to complete the attached waiver from the Town of Penetanguishene and bring it with you the first time you enter the arena this year.  It is a one-time waiver and is only required for your first entry and will be collected and held for any subsequent visits.

Registration Fees
The PMHA registration fees for 2021-22 have been set and are as follows:
  • U6 - Intro To Hockey - $300
  • U7 - Mite - $550
  • U8 - Minor Novice - $700
  • U9 through U18 - $775

The board worked very hard to keep our registration fees as low as possible.  The increase in fees was necessitated by the removal of gate fees for all games and increases in ice fees. This year's fees include a discount that was applied across the board based on last year ending 1 week early.  Therefore, there is no refund or credit from last season.

In addition to registration fee increases, the rep fee for next season is also increasing to $200.  This accounts for the fact that Rep and AE teams will receive more practice time this season per Hockey Canada mandates regarding less games and more practices to maximize player development.

Payment of Registration Fees
All registration fees are required to be paid in full by September 22nd.  This can be done by sending an e-transfer to [email protected].   Rep fees will be due by October 10th.

Hitting Clinics
All players wishing to tryout in the U15 division for the Rep team will be required to attend 1 of 2 hitting clinics. If a U18 player is new to Rep or AE, and has not participated in a hitting clinic, they must also attend this clinic.  The hitting clinics will be held on Wed, Sept 15th and Wed, Sept 22nd.  Players only need to attend a single session.  The U15 division convenor will be in touch with players in that division to register players for those sessions.

Goalie Clinics
PMHA is excited to offer free goaltending clinics starting Wed, Sept 15th for goalies of all ages.  These goalie specific training sessions will run 8 times throughout the year with 4 running in September/October, 1 in November, 1 in December, 1 in January and 1 in February.  Goalies in every division are encouraged to attend.

Tryout Dates
Tryout dates are now posted on the PMHA website.

U13, U15 and U18 Rep tryouts will be running September 24th, 25th and 26th.  Teams must be selected by October 1st.  U13 and U18 AE tryouts will be running October 2nd and 3rd.

U11 Rep tryouts will be running September 28th, 30th, and October 1st.  That team must be selected by October 3rd.

The cost for tryouts is $60.

More information on tryouts will come from division convenors when we get closer to these dates.

Development Skates
The first three weeks of the season will feature development skates only.  These skates welcome our players back to the ice prior to tryouts and are fun sessions intended to simply get our members out skating, shooting and passing, and playing again.  The dates for these skates are posted to the PMHA website and for simplicity will be assigned based on birth year.  Please make sure you look at the correct birth year to attend the proper sessions.

All skates will be informal and are not for evaluation.  Many will feature a small warmup and then players will be divided to play a game of shinny with their friends.

U9 & Below Programming
Our youngest age groups will be returning to the ice in September as well.  These groups will also get 1 session per week and players will start their development beginning September 11th.  Please check the PMHA website for dates and times and be sure to check each week as sometimes the days/times change to accommodate other user groups at the arena.

Our U6 program - Intro To Hockey - is often one of the biggest groups we have.  Normally all players and parents go on the ice at the same time, but due to COVID restrictions, we are only allowed 30 people on the ice during this stage.  While these restrictions are in place, we will be splitting this group into 2 half hour sessions instead of the usual 1 hour session.  We hope to be able to return to full programming in October.

Arena Restrictions/Policies
PMHA continues to work with the Town of Penetanguishene to determine what protocols and restrictions will be in place for the coming season.  While there should be some loosening of restrictions that we did not have last year - spectators in the building, use of dressing rooms, etc., there are still restrictions in place that we must abide by.

Dressing rooms will have a maximum capacity and we are working with the Town to figure out how we will manage this for larger groups and for tryouts and games.  For the start of the season, we may still ask players to get dressed at home or in the parking lot.

Spectators will be allowed in the building but we are currently limited to 1 spectator per player.  This will be strictly enforced and we apologize for any inconvenience this might cause but please plan accordingly (note: siblings or other family members will not be allowed to accompany the 1 spectator into the building to start the season).

More details about the arena restrictions will be worked out during our development skates and initial return to the ice.  Please be patient with us and with arena staff while we navigate the start of the season.

Cancellation of Registration and Refunds

Anyone wishing to cancel their registration and receive a full refund must do so by Wednesday, September 8th.  After that date, our normal refund policy will be in effect and only partial refunds will be given and an administrative fee will be charged.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please talk to a PMHA board member or send me an email at [email protected]
