Pharmasave Atom LL #1 Captures Regional Silver Stick Title
Submitted By Duane Homick on Monday, November 25, 2019
Congratulations to the Pharmasave Atom LL #1 who won the Wasaga Beach Regional Atom LL Silver Stick championship this past weekend.  They have now qualified for the International Silver Stick tournament in Pelham, ON from Jan 10-12 where they will face the winners of other Canadian and American regional tournaments.

In the first game on Saturday morning, the Flames cruised to a 9-0 win over the Wasaga Beach Stars.   Logan and Cohen both scored hat tricks,  James added a pair of goals, and Jackson finished with a single.   Reece had the shutout.

In game 2, the flames faced the Innisfil Winterhawks LL #3.  James scored the first and third goals and Cohen squeaked in the second goal with 1.7 seconds left in the second period. Beckham was pressured all game and was beaten by 3 well executed shots leading to a 3-3 tie.

In game 3 on Sunday morning, everyone was excited.  The flames could taste the finals and being up against the other Innisfil Winterhawks LL team, they wanted to show what Penetang was made of.  The game was scoreless after the first period,  but Logan with a wrap around goal 2 minutes into the second fired up the Flames letting them know they could score. 5 minutes later, Logan scored again from behind their net.  AJ made it 3-0 in the 3rd and  Reece made some impressive saves snatching pucks out of the air to keep it that way. With 3:30 left in the 3rd, Innisfil scored to prevent Reece from getting his second shutout of the tournament, but that is all they could get on him and the Flames moved on to the final.

In the Championship game, the parents were more nervous than the kids who came onto the ice with nerves of steel while the stands shook with anticipation.  The game would be a rematch against the Innisfil Winterhawks LL #3 team who the flames tied the day before.  The Winterhawks were first on the board just 3 minutes into the game, but Jackson scored 2 minutes later to tie it up at 1-1.  Cohen with help from AJ potted two to give the Flames a 3-1 lead.   Beckham just barely couldn’t get to a puck as it bounced over his head making it a 3-2 game halfway into the 2nd period.  The game went back forth from here until Logan went in on a partial breakaway down the side of the ice.  A slow pass to Cohen in the middle and Cohen pokes the puck up and over the goalie in what was a beautiful display of teamwork.  When the buzzer sounded, the final score was 4-2 and the Flames were the Silver Stick Regional champions.

Congratulations to the players and coaches on a job well done!  The Atom LL #1 team becomes the first LL team in Penetang history to head to International Silver Stick in Pelham on Jan 10-12.
