U15 LL wins Regional Silver Stick in Overtime
Congratulations to the U15 LL team on their thrilling OT victory this past weekend in Wasaga Beach.  They are now headed to International Silver Stick later this year.

The Penetang U15 Local League team entered into the Wasaga Beach Regional Silver Stick, with a record of 1 win, 2 loses and a tie.  And in this very tournament one of their losses and their tie would be competing.  With a 9:15am start on a Saturday morning the team was excited,  First game would be against the Elmvale Coyotes, and they came out fast.  Making the first shot of the game, But Nate McColl our super star goaltender didn’t let that through.  AJ Maurice took the puck down the ice and Passed it to Haden Jankowski who put Our Flames on the board for what would be the first of 7 goals.   What we saw from our Athletes was solid back checking by forward players,  great defensive zone clearing by our D line, and overall great team spirit.

After a nice long Break,  4:45pm our Penetang Flames hit the ice for the second game against the Listowel cyclones.   Listowel is the first to score on a Powerplay goal.  The game is fast, and rough,  both teams spend some time in the box and our flames are looking to take the wind out of the cyclones,  Logan Beauchamp takes the puck behind our net,  looks down the ice and sees James ( Jimmers) Dubeau at the half,  with a swift pass to Jimmers,  he’s off and takes the puck to the net sinking what appears to be an easy 5 hole shot,  With this momentum we carry on to win 4-2.

Sunday Morning,  back on the ice at 9:15am. We are ramped up, team Manager Stephen deRusett has put his hair on the line, when the Flames win SilverStick they will get to shave his head how ever they like in the parking lot. To get to the Championship first we face Wasaga Stars LL2,  The last time  we faced them it ended with a2-2 tie after a post shot.  This time had to be different!  Again Scoring was opened in the first by Logan Beauchamp assisted by Jackon Piitz. Wasaga  would tie it up just 1 minute later.  Wasaga would score an unanswered goal in the second,  BUT in the 3rd,  Haden Jankowski would score once in the first 5 minutes,  and then once again in the last 20 seconds!  All 3 goals scored in this game had assists,  The Flames Passing game continuing to improve.

The finals at 3:30pm were intense.  The first period was Scoreless between the Lindsay Muskies and our Flames. Liam Partridge-Ried was first to hit the score board, assisted by Jimmers, in the second.  Linsday would get 2 power plays in the second but Nate was a super star seeming to be able to go from his back to his feet to his head and around.  Jimmers would put a second goal to stretch our lead to 2-0 after the second.   Lindsay didn’t come to lose.  In the 3rd they came hard, the game was fast and the Refs were throwing out Penalties.  Linday with 3,  and Penetang with 8.   Lindsay would go on to score one goal at 9 minutes into the 3rd, and then tie it up with just 9 seconds left.

We are going into Sudden death overtime.  But we wouldn’t be there long.   The puck is in their zone and it is a scramble of a puck,  AJ deRusett passes it to Jimmers, who is surrounded,  he pops the puck out to AJ Maurice who sinks the winning goal,  of this just 40 seconds into the period.

The Penetang Flames U15LL come away as Central Region Silver Stick Champions!

And while I only mentioned a few names in this write up.  Credit must be given to the entire team, We passed, we cross checked, and we made changes on the fly.  It didn’t matter if we had 3, or 5 skaters on the ice, everyone stepped up,  we covered each others positions, we made solid passes, and we learned we can play together.

The entire coaching staff was proud to help this team be their best.
