Penetang Flames Atom LL1 competed in the SilverStick International tournament in Pelham Ontario the weekend of January 9th.  A tournament that requires 6 ice surfaces and 4 days.   With over 70 teams coming together from as far away as California this event was amazing for our athletes.

A tournament of this size really showed our flames as skilled athletes. We played 4 games, the 4 teams we played all played in the championships.  Due to luck of the draw us and 3 of the top teams faced off in a round Robin,  we won our first 2 games against the eventual Consolation Championships teams with a 3-2 win over the Michigan Gladiators, and a 5-1 Win over the Tillsonburg Tornadoes who went on to take the Consolation championship.

In day 2 we faced the Lambton Predators, it was a hard fought game in which our lack of full ice experience really showed.  Our goalie Reece M. Went down hard to make a save and pulled a muscle, he came off and Beckham B filled the net making some great saves but unfortunately we came up shy losing 2-1 putting us in 2nd place in our pool.

Our next game was against the leafs, the team to eventually take the championship.

Beckham B. started in net as a Reece M. was not back to 100%.  The Leafs played a full ice game that our flames just couldn't match.  Beckham was often faced with multiple players in our zone who got behind our flames, with a 0-7 loss Beckham saved 4 shots for every one that went in.   Dispite this loss our team played hard,  The Leafs went on to take the championship beating the Predetors.
