Bantam Reps Win International Silver Stick
Congratulations to the Penetang Bantam Rep team on capturing the Bantam 'B' International Silver Stick championship in Forest, ON.

On the weekend the Penetang Bantam Rep Flames travelled to Forest, Ontario to compete in the International Silver Stick. The team would compete against some of the top Bantam B teams in the province for the chance to hoist the prestigious Silver Stick. Friday’s opening game saw the Penetang Flames get off to a slow start, but were able to hang on and win 2-1 against the Tavistock Titans. With one game under their feet, the Flames would then meet up with one of the top ranked teams going into the tournament, the Lambeth Lancers. Penetang played a very strong game in all three zones and were victorious by a score of 3-2.

On Saturday the Flames were matched against a physical team, the Kincardine Kinucks. In another one goal game, the Flames were able to come out on top by using their speed and an aggressive forecheck, winning a 4-3 decision. The afternoon game saw a tired but determined group of players play against the Mitchell Meteors. The Meteors were physical and fast, and had the Flames on their heels. Both teams exchanged goals a couple of times, and when regulation time expired they were all tied up 2-2. A 10 minute sudden victory overtime period followed to determine a winner. Both teams exchanged chances in a cautiously played overtime period. Finally, with the period winding down the Flames found their second wind and were able to get one by the Meteor goaltender, winning the game 3-2. This victory assured that the Penetang Flames would enter directly into the Championship game as they finished the round robin in first place.

Sunday’s finale saw a rematch of game two, as the Lambeth Lancers were able to win their semi-final game and advance to the final. The Flames looked refreshed and poised to bring home the Championship. The boys were skating and passing very well to start, but fell behind 1-0 as a result of an unfortunate bounce. This was not familiar territory for the Flames. Showing grit and perseverance, the team battled hard, took the lead and never looked back. The Penetang Flames defeated Lambeth 4-1 and became repeat Silver Stick Champions. Outstanding goaltending and team defence were key components to victory. The team would like to thank all the parents, grandparents and fans back home watching on-line.
