Georgian Bay Triangle Play Downs – Game 2 & 3
Georgian Bay Triangle Play Downs – Game 2 & 3 Penetang Flames are stepping up in the GBT play downs!

Game 2

Penetang Flames visited the Midland Centennials #1

The Flames entered the Midland Centennials arena with a win under their belt and hoped to make it two in a row.  The starting offensive line for the Flames was #9 Trent W, #17 Spencer P, and #15 Elliot and on defence #8 Kyle B and #93 Landon T. The Centennials came out firing and found the back of the net within the first 2 minutes. The Flames would not take that goal standing still and on a power well into the first period, #17 Spencer P. tied up the game.

The second period saw #66 Finn B take the face-off with #11 Drew and #10 Nathan by his side! The game was back and forth and the late into the second #17 Spence P scored with a great assist by his lines makes, #9 and #15. The Flames held the lead going into the third period.

With 15 minutes on the board for the third period, the Flames worked hard to keep their lead, but unfortunately the Centennials came back and tied the game at 2-2. The Flames continued to work hard on defence with #3, #13, #44 and #53 helping our goalie #31. The Flames worked hard to get it and keep it in the Midland zones, and #9 Trent W put the Flames back in the lead with about 7 minutes to go. The Flames worked hard to keep the lead and with less than a minute left, the Centennials put the third and final goal in the net to tie the game 3-3.

A special thanks to Assistant Coach J. Landriault for stepping in and helping the team!

Game 3

Penetang Flames hosted the Dundalk Storm

Game Three of the play downs and the Flames pre-game warm-up song got them pumped and ready to show the Dundalk Storm what ‘Fire-Ball’ means to these boys. Right off the face-off, #91 Noah B. took the puck all the way to the net and put the Flames in the lead. His line mates #9 Trent W and #4 Aidan G. on offence worked great all game as a line and our starting defence #3 Chad C and #44 Owen D also played a great game.  The Flames went on to score a second goal by #17 Spencer P. putting the game 2-0.

The second period was just as actioned backed as the first, and #15 Elliot D. found his grove and put one in the top corner. Great team work by all throughout the second and #17 Spencer P. continued his scoring streak and put the Flames up 4-0. The action certainly did not stop there, #66 Finn B. shot down the middle and was on a break-away when Dundalk got called for tripping and Finn was awarded a penalty shot! This was quite exciting and I’m sure somewhat nerve racking for Finn as everyone in the arena was watching him! It was a great effort by Finn, however the Dundalk goalie had just as much on the line as Finn did and he managed to stop the puck! Great try Finn and well done under such pressure!

Going into the last 15 minutes of play, the Flames did not stop and proved to be relentless (as Coach J would say) and #15 Elliot D. and #91 Noah B each scored once again! As hard as the team worked to get their goalie #31 Ryan C with a shut-out, Dundalk managed to put one in and the final score was Flames 6 and Dundalk 1.

Some highlights for the fans, was certainly some great team work by the line of #11 Drew F, #10 Nathan G and #66 Finn B….you almost had one Drew!! Also, a great shot on net at the blue line by #44 Owen D…. so so close! Overall a great game played by all and thanks again to #13 Jackson C for stepping-up on defence and for Assistance Coach J. Landriault who is convinced he’s our new lucky charm!

Great work Flames, keep up the great work throughout the play downs!
